Researchers estimate that one to two percent of the US population has celiac disease, yet approximately 85 percent of those people are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.
Celiac disease causes a wide array of symptoms and increases the risk of many other health issues such as osteoporosis, other autoimmune conditions, infertility and even cancer. The good news is, successfully avoiding gluten in the diet brings these risks back down. Therefore, quick and accurate diagnosis is important to short and long term health and quality of life.
As a diagnosed celiac and board certified nutritionist, I've decided to work to get the word out on Celiac Disease to help those who are diagnosed, as well as hopefully help some people find a diagnosis and answer to their health issues.
Throughout the month of May, I will be sharing information, tips, resources and gluten free recipes. Like my Facebook page (facebook.com/thrivenutritionandwellness) to make sure you don't miss anything!
